Goal directed offering for ancestors

HI everyone.
I ve been working with my ancestors for some time now. I ve noticed that they dislike the offering used in other cultures ,like rum and cigars.(in Europe people don t build altars for their ancestors)As a standard offering I use spring water ,bread and candle. In special occasions vine and cake.
I would like to add some extras to my offering if Im working towards a certain goal but I m not really sure what or how.

How Is it done in other cultures?
