Vacancy of Mind

A quick question regarding part 1 of IIH - Bardon states that an aspirant needs to be able to hold a complete vacancy of mind for 10 minutes, without "digressing or forgetting."

I've been meditating with great infrequency for around 13 years. I can hold onto "vacancy of mind" for more than 10 minutes without losing myself to other thoughts. However, that's not to say other thoughts do not appear distantly in the corners of my mind. I can feel them begin to develop, and I just shut them down, without losing focus on that nothingness. They never have time to develop into a full thought. They are more likes sparks of thought that I quickly smother without being distracted. Is this considered successful? Bardon's phrasing makes it a bit unclear.
