Red Silk Rug

Hello all,
I was wondering if any of you use the silk rug described by Dee in your workings. It is descibed as having to be two yards square. That is a 6 foot by 6 foot square of silk! This seems like a ridiculous amount of silk, and almost impractical. I am trying to recreate the tools as close as possible to what was written. I have 11 yards of raw whitish silk cloth, which I could sew to make this giant square, but I have heard silk is somewhat difficult to dye since it is basically just protein. Any thoughts?
