ebay and booksellers

OK, general question, what is the best bidding strategy to beat book-sellers on ebay? I am bidding on 3 books, all over $150 at the moment and I want them all. There is this guy bidding against me who won the last book off me and it has me seathing because he isn't a magickian, he just buys them and then reposts them at a higher price, "buy-now".
The last book I lost was a Grand Grimoire.
