Appropriate Action Against Spammers

Is the storm of Russian butts over? 
What is the appropriate action against spammers on the forum? Is it just to ignore them or send a message to one of the moderators? I haven't yet used the "friend" or "foe" labels. I'm new to forums in general and just wondering what the protocol would be.
