Curiousity in Magic(k)

Intent is usually required as a prerequisite for the performance of magic(k) since usually the intent itself dictates the method(s) to be used in order make the intent tangible. Does curiousity qualify as intent? Curiousity/experimentation is the basis for scientific inquiry and magicians are always encouraged to find out what works for them and to develop on all levels of their being. That notwithstanding some mages still go about instilling a sense of dread in their speech as if one false move is going to open up the gates of whatever and swallow one whole, spew up a bunch of nasties and/or "insert favorite cliche scenario here". Perhaps folks should just lighten up?
