Spell casting or Spirit evocation?

Greetings,
I kindly need a clarification, if possible.
Suppose you want to achieve a mundane goal by magical means.
You have at least three options:
a) Cast a spell
b) Command the task to a spirit (planetary, goetic, etc.)
c) Create a familiar spirit/eggregor to accomplish the task
How do you pick up one option rather than the other(s)?
Is there any guideline which makes prefer one option rather than the other(s)?
I don't ask with curiosity. I'm really stuck in my workings because of this doubt.
