Passing away easier when people are in great pain

So here is the situation. A friend of my friends whom I don't know personally is dying in pain and agony due to lung cancer which metastasized throughout his body. I was asked if I can help him pass away easier, but had to acknowledge that I have no idea how to do that. There are angels of death who for sure can speed up the process if asked, but I do not think that this is also a wish of my friends in question. I have actually never thought about this before, so I must say I am confused. There is no way now that this person can be healed, just to pass away more peacefully and more painless, but not not quickly. Thanks.
