Divination

Post#1 » Wed Oct 07, 2009 2:57 pm

Physicists and Mathematician's tell us there is no such thing as true randomness, well if this is the case by what method do such divination methods such as I-Ching and the tarot work. If there no such thing as true randomness possible within the spectrum of human capability; then it is possible that a pattern is formed when one performs an action based off the concept of random. I have found in my tarot readings that there is no such thing as an actual random draw. But to the oustide observer the draw is completely random.

So we seperate an observed random condition from a true random condition. If the true random condition cannot exist in the material world, then we can ask what is common tie between these "randon" conditions that make up various fortune tellings. In this case the only common tie is the actual person drawing these fortunes. If this is case then what is the tie that binds these togeather. It is the aspect of faith and the individual doing it. But if each individuls "belief" system is a seperate system unto itself, than no one belief system is actually true. In this case that means that the quote "All paths lead to divinity". Thus the fallacy of one belief system or structure being more important is revealed.

If then the actual belief system does not supply this divinatory data than what actaully does supply it? Some people want to call it the sub or un-conciouse; and others want to call it the soul. Since we can not have empiracal proof that the soul does exist, then we must simply accept our experiences as proof. Ceremonial Magic teaches of something called the inherent self. So I will cal it the psyche. The word psyche is a greek word for butterfly and has come to take on connotations dealing with psychology. ((Insert standard english definition of the word psyche here as per websters)).

If the psyche is the bubtterfly emerging from the chrysylis. Than even while it remains in the chryslis it must still exist. So even though the inherent self is not realized, it is still there. If you have removed intellegence and belief from the source of the randomness then all that is left is the psyche or the inherent self. Realized or Un-Realized it is still there and it is the last remaining common link left to us, so it must be the only choice. If this is the case than the what we would call observed randomness is merely the impression of the psyche upon the world through the astral fluid that we call randomness.

So if the key to divination is not in the method itself but in the manifestation through the use of the "random" factor. The second critical factor is a form of divination that is based off something that can be understood through the realm of study. Then any method of divination that is based on the twin realms of "chance" and "occultism" can be used. So let's propose a system that ceremonial magicians might appreciate ((As well as us recovering gamers)).

The Die 10 Roll.

To ceremonial magicians who study the qabalah each of the 10 sepiroth mean an individual idea or concept. That is to say that tipareth is different from malkuth, and binah is surely not yesod. The second bit to keep in mind is that within each sepiroth there exists a tree of life for that sepiroth. And there is also the "shell" or qlipoth. To each ceremonial magician each means its own concept or idea.

Take four dice
2 Ten Sided Die
2 Four Sided Die

The Formula Equals
The aX of bY

aX are the first rolls of the four and ten sided respectively
bY are the second rolls of the four and ten sided respectively.
1=Malkuth through 0= Kether
1+3 =Sepiroth
2+4=Qlipoth

Try it, what happens?
