Goofs in Numerology ?

According to Modern society, numerology is an ancient belief based on a relation between numbers and objects or persons. (Of course this is a rough definition)

In that respect, the divinatory aspect is based on the fact that the letters a, j, s are equal to 1, b, k, t = 2 .. etc

But, how can we have a "standard coding" since it is an ancient belief and moreover this ancient belief was used by different people using different alphabets ?

J and U for example are recent letters in Western civilizations (Latin do not know these letters), Vowels do not exist in Arabic, (apart from the very emphasized ones, like Alif (A), I believe it is more or less the same in Hebrew (apart again from Alef (A).

Most of the Eastern languages do not know the X, being replaced by KS (or more exactly, I believe that it must be the X that have replaced the KS)

Anyone of you would have a plausible explanation about this ?
