Quick Question on The Seal of God's Truth

Hello, a couple of quick questions regarding the Sigillum dei Aemeth...
I'm somewhat aware of it's origin, but rather, what is it's main purpose and it's other uses? I mean, this thing sounds really powerful, most probably is, I'm pretty sure it can be used for more than one purpose... This seal has the 72 Names of The Lord, shouldn't it be effective in terms of spiritual and psychic protection from spirits?
Also, are there any guidelines in handling and creating this seal? I recall seeing on one of the other threads how you're supposed create it with your own hand; things to this effect.
