Re: PGM IV 154-285: Initiation with Typhon for Bowl Divination

I think it might be a modern, Golden Dawn / Abramelin inspired misunderstanding to think of these things as a one off that you only do once. I've seen people with a different perspective (Academics) come to the conclusion that these rites are actually more like empowerments which would be done occas...

Re: Thoughts on PGM Reconstruction

Research is important, but magic dies and becomes philosophy when winging it is removed from the repertoire. Also, there is a big difference between winging it, and running on inspiration. Inspiration in my opinion relies on an exterior and interior base. Interior base for inspiration is limited by...

Re: A question for Kemetics- looking for lore about Kauket

I only know of working with the Ogdoad through the PGM as in PGM XIII where they are all named in the ritual opening where you recreate the moment of creation. They all work together so you call them all together.

Re: Thoughts on PGM Reconstruction

I think you are right. The PGM is very loose and you can see in the text itself, the same spell will appear more than once and slightly modified to suit different situations. I think the whole thing is one big copy & paste job, and I continue this approach myself. One thing I've found useful is ...

Ahh the gods always put obstacles in our way! Only the most persistent get results. As soon as I started working on pitch to get the right tones for planetary work, I got a bad ear infection and couldn't hear the pitch pipe I was using! Even Crowley says somewhere that as soon as you start doing rea...

Re: Techniques of Graeco-Egyptian Magic - Add the Usual

I remember meeting Ian Rons once at Treadwells and having a conversation about Egyptology. He used to be active in the London OTO and Lashtal until "something" happened... Now I'm getting scared again. I need a phylactery....one that can guard against daimons, against phantasms and agains...

Re: Techniques of Graeco-Egyptian Magic - Add the Usual

I'm not stating that the intentional misdirection of the reader is not some how wrong; rather I'm not certain I agree fully with your premise that this is a blatant screw up here. I can't help but think that Skinner's representation of "add the usual" as "do the usual" is a sema...
